Let your iPhone or iPad read to you (part one)

Screen Shot 2014-12-07 at 7.45.56 PMThere are so many things that you can tweak on your iPhone (and iPad). But, we all don’t need everything. For example, some people love the flashing light notifications (an old post, but still generally accurate), while other people don’t need that flashing feature and don’t care one bit that it is available.

Today we are going to explore another one of those “extra” things. For some people this will be a life-saver. For others ….. it’s just a curiosity (but kind of fun to fool around with!)

Let’s look at turning on Speak Selection on your device.

By turning on “Speak Selection”, you can have your phone read selected text to you.

To turn on “Speak Selection”, go to Settings > General > Accessibility > Speech > Speak Selection

Once you have turned it on, select any text, and the choice to “speak” it will appear as an option when it is highlighted. Tap on “speak” and your phone will read the text to you.

And now that you know how to do this, I can’t wait to post “part two”. Stay tuned!

    • I think it’s one of those things that is rather useless…… unless you need it, and then it’s priceless. Imagine being significantly visually impaired. Then it would be a lifesaver. πŸ™‚

    • It is kind of fun to explore all this little “extras” ….. even tho we don’t need them, or choose to use them. I believe that we can change the American-voice on our phones to an Australian one. Now, THAT would be fun!!

I'd love to hear what you think!
