Years (and years) ago, I remember putting the contact “ICE” (in case of emergency) in my contact list. I thought this was so clever. In an emergency, a health care person could find this on my phone and know who to contact……
Duh. Now our phones are locked. Although my ICE contact is still listed, in an emergency the professional who picks up my phone will find nothing but a lock screen.
HOWEVER ……
There is an emergency “work around” and this is far better than the mere ICE contact.
(and I thank dear friend Trudi for bringing this to my attention).
By setting up your Medical ID information in the “Health” app on your phone, you will give medical professionals the opportunity to see your emergency contact and any health info that you would want them to know in case of an emergency.
All you need to do is:
1. open your health app, and add the medical information that you would want known.
That’s it!
In case of an emergency, this information will be accessible on your locked iPhone.
To access this medical information from the locked numeric code screen, just tap “Emergency”
and then, “medical ID”

Thank you so much!
You’re welcome! I set mine up right away ….. 🙂
Important to know. Thanks.
It is important. I think it’s a great feature. Spread the word!
This is invaluable information – thank you so much!
I’m so glad I was alerted to this. I agree, it’s really important.
I have now activated it in my iphone, and in my hubby’s (he has serious life-threatening allergies), so it was a must for him). Thanks again.
You’re very welcome. 🙂
Great idea! I just did it, so I’m all set up. Thanks.
I set up mine, too. It’s such a good idea!
That’s a good idea.
My sister has a Sony Xperia, and I love what they do. They have a contact system theirs that you have a designated ICE area. When you put up to three people in it, they will appear on the lock screen so you can call them without having to unlock the phone.
It’s a really smart idea to allow medical personal to use the phone as a way to contact people and/or learn about important medical conditions that might impact emergency service. Sounds like this might be a “thing” that all phones include in some way. (So good to see you, again!!!)
I get so little time to go round blogs any more. I tend to visit only a couple and not usually the same ones. When you came to mine, I realised it has been almost a year since I have been to yours so wanted to come back 🙂
So glad you did! You were one of my very first blogging friends, and so you have a special place in my blogging heart. 🙂
Do you still do the “Three ways” photos? I just looked through my digests and you aren’t on there. You should be on my weekly list. Time to correct that
I had somehow unfollowed you. I have rectified that though.
