Many people of all ages are entering the world of iPhones, iPads and eReaders every day. Some jump in with both feet, fully comfortable with the technology after decades of familiarity with personal computers and electronic gadgets. Fully versed in tech-speak, these people embrace their devices and enjoy them completely.

But then there are others who, although they are interested, haven’t been keeping up as technology evolves and an iPhone or iPad just looks too intimidating or complicated. These people would love these devices, they just don’t know it. Or maybe they know it, but they don’t know how to start.

There are a ba-zillion tech blogs all over the internet, but often they go much deeper (i.e. jailbreaking, etc) than a typical casual user would ever need.

So my goal is to scour the internet for tips and apps that might be interesting, appealing or new for all of us, ummmmm, “regular” folks.

I’ll be sharing the things I learn from the comfort of my favorite chair at home. (hence the title of the blog “sharechair”)

I hope you find new things here. And if you do, please let me know 🙂

I JUST published the 2nd edition of my book for the Kindle. I fell in love with e-everything when e-mail became available through my office YEARS ago.

  4. Apps are a great deal of fun … My devices are (too) full of weather apps, task apps, calendar apps, art apps, zen apps … wow, I’m sounding a bit manic, here. (but they are fun! … and often very helpful.)

  6. Believe me – it’s not just the AARP generation that needs help with tech stuff. You’d be surprised how many people in my generation aren’t as tech saavy as society would perceive us to be (I’m in that weird category that is either the tail end of Gen X or the oldest of Gen Y).

    I consider myself fairly tech-saavy and read up on new technology, but I’m not really an early adopter and will squeeze out as much as I can out of whatever technology I currently have.

    I think you’ve done a great job in making your tech tips understandable for non-tech saavy individuals.

    • Wow, Nicole, you have made me feel so good! I am delighted that I can offer some bit of help on some days. My daughter-in-laws constantly remind me that they have learned things too (and obviously they are younger folk). But they are related, so their comments are skewed …. but coming from you, well, I’m just so touched and happy!

    • Wonderful! I think that technology can greatly enhance life as we age. People who are less mobile, homebound, mobility restricted, etc, can “get out”, socialize, be entertained, communicate with others, all from their home. Life changing. 🙂

  11. I have been working with computers since they were invented for the public, I think at least 35 years now, but, I no longer gravitate towards any new contraptions. I think of them as a waste of my time and money so I know nothing of ipads or kindles. I still like books and magazines, sorry trees. I studied programming and web developing and used to play my own mdos games, I don’t like the new stuff, there’s nothing to it. I was never that fond of windows, even though it made everyone’s life easier. I got my first cell phone a few years ago for emergency purposes only but use it more then I planned so glad for that invention.

  12. Thank you for stopping and liking a post today. This is an interesting blog. My dissertation topic is about the use of technology in education. I will be looking at it from a perspective of mindful choices and uses. I think your blog will be beneficial and look forward to following it.

  14. Okay, I have an idea for you. I think you should so some Dear Sharechair type post and I’ll submit the first letter.
    Dear Sharechair,
    I am very excited because I would like to buy my husband an I-Pad for Father’s Day but not sure if it would be the right thing for him. He likes to play solitaire, check e-mails, and read newspapers (on-line). He also occasionally does some surfing of the web. Do you think he would like an i-pad. Which one would be best for him?

You wouldn’t happen to know why some images (photos) open on download while greeting cards won’t open? Thanks for all the free info. I’ve had an iPhone for years and don’t know the half of what it can do. And I just got an iPad. 🙂

    • So glad you’re here, Elizabeth! Unfortunately I don’t know a thing about the Samsung Galaxy, sorry. My gadgets are an iPhone, an iPad and a Kindle, so my experiences are limited to those three. Hope you find some useful information. Enjoy that new iPad! and again… welcome! 🙂

    • Thank you, Marcia! I do appreciate the nomination. However, I have recently gone “Award Free” on my blog, so I won’t be participating. That doesn’t mean, however, that I’m not grateful! I thank you very much. I’ve just “given up” awards. (now, if I could only give up potato chips and ice cream!)
